Most layouts do not contain text boxes, except for covers. This can be done afterwards to give images a comment or a title for the photo book page.
You create a new text box by clicking on the "New text box" icon in the "Text" toolbar or via the dropdown menu (right mouse click in the workspace). You can now drag the new text box into the desired position on the current page using the mouse. You can position it more precisely later on or change the size. You will see the standard text "- Your text -" in the text box to begin with. As long as you do not have any custom text inserted or the text box is empty, it is not visible in the finished photo product.
The text box and text are completely different elements, just like images and placeholders.
While the text box is also a placeholder and has an editing frame, the content of the text box (the text itself) has to be selected and edited differently. If you need to edit the text box itself, for example if you want to move it, simply click the text box’s editing frame.
To edit the text in the text box, click inside the text box.
The text cursor (looks like an I-bar) flashes in the text field. If the I-bar text cursor is flashing in the selected text box, you are editing the text; if not, you are editing the text box itself.
Highlight the text to be moved and place the mouse cursor over the editing frame. The mouse cursor will then change into a cross with arrows. Hold down the left mouse button and move the text box to the position where you want your text to appear or move it using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
You can use the corner handles to scale the text box evenly, or the side handles to set the width and/or height. The text itself will not be increased or reduced in size. To do this, you need to use text properties and format the font size.
You can use the rotation handle, which lies slightly within the frame, to rotate the frame around this handle while holding down the mouse button. Alternatively, to rotate in 90° steps, select the commands "Rotate frame anti-clockwise" and "Rotate frame clockwise" in the toolbar or the dropdown menu (right mouse button).
You can delete the active text box either by highlighting the text frame and clicking on the "Delete" icon in the "Editing" toolbar, or by pressing the "Del" key on your keyboard. You need to do this twice in a row. The first time, all of the highlighted text will be deleted, the second time the text box will be deleted.
Click in the text box until the text cursor appears (flashing upright bar) and enter the text using the keyboard. You can copy texts from a different source (Word file, internet page, etc.) and paste them into the text box using the operating system clipboard. Sometimes the text formatting can be transferred too, as can the source code (HTML commands) from internet pages. This then has to be adjusted or deleted.
To add to a text, move the text cursor to the appropriate point where you want to insert additional text and write from there. To overwrite or delete sections of text, select the corresponding passage in the text by holding down the mouse button and overwrite it or press the "Delete" key on your keyboard. You can highlight the entire contents of a text box using the key combination "Ctrl" + "a".
Text on the Cover SpineUnfortunately, you cannot move or resize the text box on the spine of a photobook and it can only be rotated in two orientations. The font on the spine is also limited to sizes which will fit within the space. |
Creates a text box in a page layout that you can fill and customise with your own text. The new text box can now be resized on the page using the mouse. You will see the standard text "- Your text -" in the text box to begin with.
A list in the toolbar showing the fonts installed on your computer. The font types are listed with their names and in the relevant fonts.
For the font style (bold, italic) and to underline the highlighted text.
To set the text colour of the highlighted text. In addition to the pre-defined colours, there is also the function, "Choose colours..." A new window will appear with a palette containing the basic colours on the left-hand side, from which you can choose a colour. Below the standard colours there is a button: "Choose colour on screen." This corresponds to the "pipette" in other image editing programs. Using the crosshair cursor, choose the colour of any pixel on your screen, or of any photo shown. On the right is the colour spectrum which you can use to adjust or mix any new colour of your choice. Simply click on the desired place in the spectrum. Alternatively, you can also enter the numerical value underneath the spectrum. If you want to use the same colour several times, please save it as a user-defined colour. To do this, click on an empty or unused colour field in "User-defined colours" and click on the button "Add to user-defined colours." It will be added to the highlighted colour field. Then click on "OK" in the bottom right. This adds the colour.

An easily legible font depends on the size, font type, colour and contrast with the background. To make the text in your photobook easy to read, we recommend a minimum font size of 10. For headers, we recommend making the text around 20 to 25% larger than the body text, e.g. text size 10 with heading size 12, text size 12 with heading size 15 and text size 16 and heading size 20 are good combinations. Captions can be a bit smaller than regular copy, but we recommend not going smaller than 6 for standard paper (8 for photographic paper) in order for text to still be legible. A print-out of a text piece with the same font and text size as in the Bob Designer software with "Microsoft Word", "OpenOffice Writer" or another text editing program gives a good idea of how large the text will look in the finished photo product. Of course, this depends whether you want to use text to describe or to personalise. |
A faster way to set a suitable font size with one or several clicks.
The size of the font can be enlarged or reduced in defined steps.
These are the paragraph formats for aligning the text within the text box. They apply to the entire highlighted text box. If you want to align individual paragraphs inside a text box, use the "More text settings..." option in the dropdown menu of the selected text box.
Mainly intended for changing all (or several) texts/text boxes at the same time. The dialogue "Text settings" will open. Here you can set all the available general properties of a text box, e.g. font type and colours, and also the distance between the text and text frame (indent) and coloured letter edges which you otherwise cannot access. For this purpose click the checkbox in front of the text property which you want to change.

Caution: These settings affect all areas of a text box. If you change the font size and if you have formatted one paragraph as a heading with a larger font in one or more text boxes, this formatting is overwritten. |
You can apply the changes to the text settings with checkboxes only to the selected text box (or the selected text boxes), to all texts in the photobook and as a default setting for newly created text boxes.

Text formatting changes Formatting changes only affect new text written to the right of the text cursor or highlighted text sections. Therefore, if you would like to format text after you have entered it, you must first select the text. You can highlight text areas by moving the mouse over your selection whilst holding down the left mouse button, or by placing the text cursor at the beginning of the text to be formatted, holding down the shift key, and then clicking at the end of the text to be formatted. You can highlight a single whole word by double-clicking on it. You can highlight the entire contents of a text box using the key combination "Ctrl" + "a". Then click the format command. |
You can turn the automatic spellchecker on and off in the Settings. If the spellchecker is switched on, then suspected misspellings will be underlined in red in the text. The red underlining will not be printed. If you right-click on the underlined word, a dropdown menu will open up containing a list of spelling suggestions. Click on one of these suggestions and it will be entered in the text in place of the underlined word. If the word has been spelt correctly and is still marked as a spelling error, it might not exist in the spelling dictionary. You can either add it to the dictionary using the dropdown menu or ignore it, i.e. it will no longer be marked as a spelling error in future.
